Supply Shopping

We are now in the town of Mount Hagen in the highlands of Papua New Guinea (PNG). On our way into the village, we needed to stop here for several days to get needed food and supplies to take out with us to the village. We need six months of food.

Yes, I did say six months.

Before leaving home, I started making up an extensive list of items we would need - flour, tinned food, medicines, pasta, peanut butter, etc. If I hadn't done this many years ago, I would have no idea how to do this. But I used to do this all the time. We went to the grocery store and loaded up three carts of items, and had four people helping us bag and box up all the items.

I was hoping to get better pictures, but didn't because of the craziness of everything. But here's a few snapshots for you to see.

In the shopping line at the supermarket.

Buying vegetables in the market. Rebecca, in the green hat, helped me find what I needed. (My hair will now be in a ponytail because of the heat!)

Mount Hagen grows beautiful vegetables and fruits freshly picked and brought in by the sellers. Here I am buying 4 tangerines for about one dollar.

After purchasing all our groceries, we have to weigh and mark everything.  We will fly everything out on a chartered twin otter. Here  we are weighing each of the boxes that the grocery store helped us pack up. We have to be sure to stay within the weight that a twin otter can carry.

More of our supplies ready to go on Tuesday's plane. We will fly in using Missionary Aviation Fellowship (MAF).

On another note, I am not sure how well I can post on the blog at Yehebi. I may have trouble, but we won't know until we get there and set up our equipment.

So, if you don't hear from me, you'll know why!

To all my piano students: I hope you're practicing! :)

  1. Been praying for these shopping days and then when you get to the village and "get" to clean your house and get set up. Always a challenge with friends and others wanting to greet you, etc.
